Until recently, there was no treatment for people who suffered from thin or irregular eyelashes (hypotrichosis). Thankfully, those days are over. LATISSE is the first and only FDA-approved treatment that helps your lashes grow longer, thicker, and darker.

The active ingredient, bimatoprost, was first used in 2001 by Allergan in a medicated eyedrop. This eyedrop, developed for glaucoma patients, relieved pressure in the eye caused by a buildup of fluid. After a few weeks, patients began to notice longer, thicker eyelashes. After a clinical trial, LATISSE was approved by the FDA for the treatment of hypotrichosis in December of 2008.

TREATMENT

LATISSE is applied daily to the base of the upper eyelashes. Results will appear gradually. Some patients notice improved eyelash length in as little as 4 weeks. Full growth should be reached in about 16 weeks. It’s important to note that this isn’t just the appearance of growth — this is an actual, physical lengthening and thickening of your natural eyelashes.

LATISSE has a few known side effects. Redness or itchiness are common. Darkening of the skin around the eye has been noted — this condition may be reversible. A darkening of the colored part of the eye has also been seen in some patients. This condition is probably permanent.
