What Is LipiFlow?
LipiFlow® uses gentle heat and pulsating pressure, applied directly to the inner eyelid, to clear blocked meibomian glands in a single in-office visit. The LipiFlow Procedure
LipiFlow® is a Thermal Pulsation System is a drug-free device used by the eye care professionals at Excel Eye Center to treat MGD patients in-office with confidence and efficiency.
The procedure includes a phased pressure profile with adaptive force equalization, and proximal-to-distal peristaltic motion evacuates gland contents as the inner lid is gently heated known as the Vector Thermal Procedure (VTP). The eyes of the patient are also always protected as the contoured design vaults the cornea while the heating and pressure system is regulated with redundant sensors.
After the initial anesthetic drop, our doctors will continue the procedure without the use of any further drugs. Then, we use the LipiFlow system to safely deliver therapeutic heating energies to the meibomian glands of the patient’s eye. As a result, any blockage or obstruction is liquefied and pushed to the surface, thoroughly clearing the glands.
 What to Expect: Before, During & After
Before your treatment, our doctors perform a short screening using LipiView or Dynamic Meibomian Imaging (DMI) to confirm MGD and measure gland health. During the visit, the LipiFlow system applies heat and gentle pressure to your eyelids for about 12 minutes while you relax in the chair. Afterward, most patients resume normal activities immediately, with many noticing improvement within four to six weeks and full results by three months.
