Patients undergoing liposuction usually spend about two to three hours in surgery.
What is Smartlipo?
Body contouring refers to a group of cosmetic procedures designed to reshape and refine the body by addressing excess fat, loose skin, or uneven contours. These treatments may be surgical or non-surgical and are often used after significant weight loss, pregnancy, or aging to help create a smoother, more proportionate appearance. Treatment Options
Patients are usually required to wear a surgical compression garment for at least six weeks after the procedure. Most patients are able to resume normal activities within two weeks of the procedure, and each patient should consult with their oculofacial surgeon before resuming vigorous physical activity.
Smartlipo™
Smartlipo™ Laser Body Sculpting is a revolutionary new procedure that is less invasive than traditional liposuction. Smartlipo™ eliminates fat cells, improves overall body shape, and results in tighter skin tissue. It is particularly effective on areas of the body not easily reachable through traditional liposuction methods, such as the neck area, waist, arms, legs, and back.
Smartlipo™ is typically done as an in-office procedure. Normally, a local anesthetic is used. Smartlipo™ usually lasts about two to three hours, and may be somewhat shorter or longer, depending on how extensive the procedure is. Patients are usually required to wear a surgical compression garment for at least two to three weeks after the procedure.
Most patients are able to resume normal activities within a week of the procedure, especially if they follow the instructions given to them after the surgery and during subsequent follow-up visits their doctor. Dr. Engen and Dr. Call will consult with each patient to determine when full activity should be resumed.

Who is a Candidate for Liposuction?

- You are in good overall health, a non-smoker, or willing to pause nicotine use as directed by your surgeon.
- Your expectations are realistic. Liposuction is a contouring procedure, not a weight-loss solution.

When can I return to normal activity?
Most people ease back into light, everyday activity within a few days, then gradually add more over one to two weeks, based on how they feel and the areas treated. Your surgeon will provide personalized guidelines for you, including when to return to exercise and heavier lifting.
Does liposuction remove cellulite?
No. Liposuction removes fat, while cellulite relates to the structure of the skin and the fibrous bands beneath it. Some patients see smoother contours after liposuction because of improved shape, but liposuction is not a cellulite treatment.
What is the difference between liposuction and a tummy tuck?
Liposuction removes fat from targeted areas; it does not address loose skin or separated abdominal muscles. A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and can help tighten the abdominal wall. In the right cases, these procedures can be combined. Your consultation will cover which option aligns with your goals.
How long does liposuction last?
