Botox Cosmetic Injections

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles. It’s used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe crow’s feet lines and frown lines between the eyebrows in adults.

Botox Treatment

Botox™ Cosmetic, also known as cosmetic denervation, is used to eliminate or reduce facial wrinkles. Botox™ works by blocking the impulses from the nerve to the facial muscles, thereby relaxing them. The result is that the pull of the underlying facial muscles relax, causing the skin to flatten. Botox™ treatments require no anesthesia and the entire procedure takes only about 10 minutes.

Botox treatment requires minimal downtime or recovery; it’s often called a lunchtime procedure. You’ll be able to go about your normal routine immediately after you leave your provider’s office.

Uses for Botox Treatment

Cosmetic Botox treatment is a popular treatment that effectively reduces or eliminates fine lines and wrinkles. It’s commonly used in many areas across the face, such as the forehead, around the eyes and neck bands. Botox is used to:

  • Diminish and soften neck bands
  • Reduce skin dimpling on the chin
  • Smooth wrinkles such as crow’s feet, forehead furrows, lip lines, frown lines, and bunny lines
  • Fix a gummy smile
  • As a minimal alternative to a facelift

Did you know that Botox injections is the only FDA-approved cosmetic treatment that temporarily improves the appearance of crow’s feet lines, moderate to severe frown lines, and glabellar lines? Botox is a simple, effective treatment to improve the overall appearance of wrinkles on the face.

Is Cosmetic Botox Right for Me?

Squinting, smiling, frowning, chewing, and basically any other form of facial movement can cause wrinkles on the face. Over time, wrinkles can make you appear tired and even angry, even when you are not. One of the fastest and most effective treatments of wrinkles is Botox.

Though Botox injections is a popular cosmetic treatment for many people in Utah, it’s not suitable for everyone. Ideal Botox treatment candidates should be over the age of 18, in good physical health, and are not pregnant or nursing. In addition, some medical conditions or skin-specific conditions may warrant a consultation with a physician to see if Botox is right for you. Some of these conditions include:

  • Scarring of facial skin
  • Skin disorders around the injection site
  • Thick facial skin
  • Asymmetrical face
  • Drooping eyelids
  • Neuromuscular disorders
  • Weakness of facial muscles
  • Diabetes

Those who choose to undergo Botox treatments require a few maintenance appointments throughout the year. If you prefer fewer treatments, a different injectable might be a better option for you.

The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for Botox in Utah is to schedule an appointment with the experts at Excel Cosmetic Surgery Center. In our consultation, we’ll consider your goals, medical history, and skin type to determine if you are a candidate for Botox injections.

Forehead Lines

Forehead lines are horizontal wrinkles that form across the forehead, often caused by repeated facial expressions such as raising the eyebrows, along with natural aging and loss of skin elasticity. Over time, these lines can become more noticeable even when the face is at rest. Botox can help fix forehead lines by temporarily relaxing the underlying muscles responsible for these movements, allowing the skin to smooth out and appear more youthful. When administered by a trained provider, Botox creates natural-looking results that soften lines while preserving normal facial expression.

Crow’s Feet

Crow’s feet are fine lines and wrinkles that form at the outer corners of the eyes, typically caused by repeated facial movements such as smiling and squinting, as well as natural aging and sun exposure. Over time, these lines can become more visible even when the face is at rest. Botox can help reduce the appearance of crow’s feet by gently relaxing the small muscles around the eyes that cause these wrinkles, allowing the skin to smooth and soften. When performed by an experienced provider, Botox can refresh the eye area while maintaining a natural, expressive look.

Frown Lines

Frown lines, also known as “11 lines,” are vertical wrinkles that form between the eyebrows as a result of repeated facial expressions such as frowning, squinting, or concentrating, along with natural aging. These lines can give the face a tired, stressed, or stern appearance even when the person is relaxed. Botox can help soften frown lines by temporarily relaxing the muscles that pull the brows together, allowing the skin to smooth out. When administered correctly, Botox reduces the appearance of these lines while preserving natural facial movement and expression.

Medical Botox

Medical Botox refers to the therapeutic use of botulinum toxin to treat a variety of medical conditions by relaxing overactive muscles or blocking certain nerve signals. It is commonly used to manage issues such as chronic migraines and muscle spasms. In cosmetic applications, the same medication is used in smaller, targeted doses to soften facial wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle movements, such as forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. By carefully relaxing specific muscles, medical Botox can create a smoother, more youthful appearance while still allowing for natural facial expression.

Botox Injection FAQs

Does Botox hurt?

Treatments are relatively quick and are generally not painful. Most patients say they experience minimal discomfort during the injection process, which diminishes after the procedure. Because Botox treatment requires no anesthesia and has no recovery time, many patients can schedule an appointment during the day and continue their normal daily routine.

When will I see results?

While each patient’s experiences are different, most will begin to notice results between 3-7 days after the injections. In some cases, it may take up to two weeks to see the final result.

What are the side effects?

You can help prevent cataracts by living a healthy lifestyle that includes eye-healthy food choices, not smoking, and maintaining a healthy weight. Protect your eyes from injury and sun damage. Wear sunglasses and a hat with a brim when you are outside in the sun. Wear eye protection when there is a risk of injury from certain sports, work, and leisure activities.

How do I prepare for my Botox procedure?

Generally speaking, patients may be asked not to consume certain medications 2 weeks prior to treatment, such as ibuprofen and aspirin. You may also be asked not to drink alcohol. For best results, follow the specific instructions from those administering the Botox.

What do I do after the procedure?

After the procedure, you’ll want to ensure that the Botox doesn’t spread to other areas where you might not want it. For an effective cosmetic Botox treatment and to avoid complications, take these precautions:

  • Avoid rubbing or massaging the injection areas
  • When applying makeup, don’t rub or press it in
  • Wait two hours before beginning any strenuous activity, such as working out, lifting heavy items, and other physical activities that could raise the heart rate

When should I begin Botox treatments?

You don’t need to be a specific age when beginning Botox treatments. In many cases, Botox is used as a preventative measure at the first site of wrinkles and lines. Some patients may wait until later in life when wrinkles become more prominent. We recommend scheduling a consultation to determine if you will benefit from Botox.
