Excel Eye Center Announces the Addition of an Orthoptist Specializing in Children Vision
Candace van Almsick joins Excel offering the latest in childcare vision.

May 10, 2002, Provo, UT-- Candace van Almsick joined Excel Eye Center of Orem this month as Utah's only Certified Orthoptist specializing in pediatric strabismus and ambloypia. She is one of less than 400 Orthoptists nationwide and enjoys working with children to correct and preserve their vision.

As an orthoptist, [ortho= straigh, optist= refers to optics of the eye] As an orthoptist, Ms. van Almsick is trained and certified to treat general and advanced vision problems in children. Her goal is to straighten the eyes and discover vision problems early to prevent loss of sight.

"It is rewarding to catch a vision problem early enough to save a child's sight. Helping children have happy, productive lives--that is why I enjoy my job," says Candace van Almsick.

Ms. van Almsick earned her B.S.in Physiology from Southern Illinois University and completed a masters level degree at the University of Wisconsin. She has advanced training in amblyopia, anatomy, optics, neuro-ophthalmology, refraction, and strabismus adding a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Excel practice. Prior to joining Excel she perfected her skills at various private practices in Germany.

On a personal note…
Ms. Van Almsick is from Salem, Massacussets. She resides in South Salt Lake where she enjoys playing the cello, snow skiing, biking and running. She is fluent in German and French and is currently studying Spanish.
