Excel Cosmetic Surgery Center performing the newly FDA approved Botox procedure with great results. Todd B. Engen, M.D. seeing great results with Botox May 20, 2002, Provo, UT- Todd B. Engen, M.D., one of the leading facial cosmetic surgeons in Utah, is seeing great results with the newly approved Botox procedure to reduce or eliminate lines and wrinkles. "Botox is not actually a new product. Botox has been used to safely and effectively treat facial movement disorders for the past 15 years. The recent FDA approval allows it to be used in the cosmetic field. Botox is helpful in removing the crows feet and frown lines that develop with age," said Dr. Engen. Suzanne Anderson of Salt Lake City has receiving Botox from Dr. Engen and is very happy with her results. "To me the improvement around my eyes and on my forehead is huge, but other people just tell me, 'You don't ever age' and 'How do you do it? I can't believe you are 45'. It looks very natural and absolutely nobody knows I have had it done," says Suzanne. The goal with Botox is to smooth the wrinkles without creating a face void of expression. An experienced surgeon will be most successful at making Botox look natural. Suzanne chose Dr. Engen for her Botox due to his experience. "I chose Dr. Engen because my mother-in-law went to him for Botox and she had such great results. I can still raise my eyebrows and I have lots of facial expression, without the wrinkles. I even look better than I did at my wedding!" How does Botox work? When you smile or frown, the facial muscles beneath the skin contract causing a wrinkle. Over time, those wrinkles appear even when you aren't smiling or frowning. Botox, also known as cosmetic denervation, is used to eliminate or reduce these wrinkles. Botox works by blocking the impulses from the nerve to the facial muscles thereby relaxing them. The result is that the pull of the underlying facial muscles relax causing the skin to flatten. During the procedure Botox liquid is injected into strategic locations in the face. The needle is extremely small and the pain is minimal needing no anesthetic. Because of this, you can return to normal activities immediately after the procedure with little or no discomfort. The treatment takes three to eight days to take effect, lasting three to six months. It usually takes two to three injections a year to maintain the smooth youthful appearance. The best candidates for Botox are those between the ages of 30 and 65 in good health.
