James G. Theurer, M.D.

Diplomate American Board of Ophthalmology

JAMES G. THEURER, M.D. has extensive training in general ophthalmology and specialty training in the treatment of cataracts. He has performed many thousands of cataract surgeries and his work has been published in the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Theurer is constantly searching for ways to improve eye care procedures. The ability to help people is what motivates him to continually increase his knowledge and skill. "There is nothing more satisfying than helping to restore someone’s vision," says Dr. Theurer. "It feels great to be able to give people something so valuable as eyesight."

Dr. Theurer has presented guest lectures on eye care and surgery for the annual meeting of The Utah Ophthalmological Society, The North Star Optometry Meeting and The Hoover-Naquin Conference in Baltimore. Dr. Theurer is a member of The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and The American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has served on the Executive Committee of The Utah Ophthalmological Society. He lectures to local societies on the importance of eye care and issues affecting the elderly population. He has served as chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology for Utah County.

Dr. Theurer graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine, and completed an internship in ophthalmology and medicine at the University of Utah. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center and obtained a significant portion of his training at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. His residency experience allowed him to travel to India for several weeks where he performed eye surgery and donated time in specialty clinics.

On a personal note...

Dr. Theurer was born in Salt Lake City and raised in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area. He and his wife Carol have three children. In his spare time he enjoys skiing, tennis and spending time with his family. He joined Excel in August of 1998.
