FACTS ABOUT EYES GROWNUPS SHOULD KNOW -- AND SOMETIMES DON'T!

A lot of people, including some parents, have the wrong idea about eyes. Here is your chance to prove them all wrong! There are some crazy myths out there, but these are the facts. Has an adult ever told you:

"Reading in a dim light will hurt your eyes!"

NOT TRUE! Your eyes may get tired quicker or it may be harder to see   when you are reading in a dim light, but it will not harm your eyes at all!

"Wearing someone else's glasses will ruin your eyes!"

NOT! You probably won't see very well while you are wearing them, but it   certainly will not damage your eyes!

"If you eat lots of carrots, you will have good eyesight!"

Hmmmm . . . is that why bunnies don't wear glasses? Actually, carrots   contain vitamin A, which in small amounts, the eyes need to function. But   if you are eating healthy meals anyway, you are getting all the vitamin A   you need!

"If you cross your eyes--they will stick that way!"

WHATEVER! No matter how much you cross them--you can't make   then stick that way! It's impossible--but you can sure get a   headache trying!

"Sitting too close to the TV or watching it in a dark room is bad for   your eyes!"

WRONG! You could stand in a pitch black room with your nose touching   the TV screen, and the only real problem that could result is from your   big brother who is trying to watch it, too! However, some very old TV's   emitted a small amout of X-rays.

Now you know the FACTS! But don't be too hard on your parents if they happen to tell you one of these "myths". They are only passing on information that their parents told them, who learned it from your great-grandparents, who learned it from, well . . . you get the picture. Kind of makes you concerned about your family history, huh!
