Facial Surgery

At Excel Cosmetic Surgery Center, we perform a variety of facial cosmetic surgery procedures. These procedures are usually carried out at Excel’s outpatient surgical facility, and present very little health risk to the patient. In each case, recovery time is a week or less.

Fat Transfer
Fat Transfer can add volume to facial features, enhance facial contours, and reduce the facial hollowing that can come with age or significant weight loss.

Ear Surgery
Ear surgery (otoplasty) changes the shape and contour of the ears. It is usually performed to reduce the personal anxiety of individuals with outwardly protruding ears.

Chin and Cheek Implants
Chin and cheek implants improve the shape of the face and create a harmonious balance among all the facial features.

Facelifts

A facelift (rhytidectomy) helps restore a youthful countenance and eliminates wrinkles and sagging skin. This procedure tightens the skin and muscle on the face and neck and removes excess skin.

This procedure may be carried out at an outpatient surgical facility or at a hospital. Patients having a facelift usually spend three to five hours in surgery. Most patients are able to resume normal activities within a week of the procedure. Dr. Engen will consult with each patient to determine when full activity should be resumed.

Mini Facelift
A mini-facelift can help significantly address the early signs of aging in the lower facial areas, such as a sagging jaw line or nasolabial folds. A mini-lift is often performed in conjunction with dermal fillers and SmartLipo™. The mini-lift procedure, which is performed in the physician’s office, features significantly less recovery time than a traditional facelift. Most patients can have the small stitches removed and resume normal activities in about a week.

Facial Surgery FAQs

What is the best age to get facial surgery?

The best age for facial cosmetic surgery depends on several factors, such as the surgery performed and the specific patient. For example, many patients find that the best age for a facelift is the mid-40s to early 50s. However, there is a minimum age for facial cosmetic surgery. Minors under the age of 18 cannot get any plastic surgery in the United States without parental consent. The way to determine the best age for your facial surgery procedure is to meet with a surgeon at Excel Eye Center for a consultation. Our surgeons are specially trained to perform many common facial surgeries, including rhinoplasty, facelifts, and otoplasty, in Utah.

Are facelifts permanent?

The outcome after a facelift or any other facial cosmetic surgery is permanent in that the changes made during the procedure are long-term. However, it’s important to understand that the natural aging process may cause the skin to droop again over time. A facelift lasts about 5-10 years for many patients before the slow aging process becomes noticeable. When this happens, some patients get touch-ups or follow-up procedures such as additional facelifts to help maintain the tightened skin and prolong the effects of the initial surgery.

How long is the recovery for a facelift?

It’s important to note that there are stages to the recovery process after receiving a facelift. Immediately after the facelift, you’ll experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort for about a week. After about two weeks, many patients can return to non-strenuous and regular everyday activities. About a month after the surgery, you can resume many everyday activities, such as exercise. From then on, the scarring will begin to fade, and you’ll see the true results of your surgery. While the average recovery for a facelift is about three months, it can take up to 6 to 12 months to fully recover.
