MATTHEW R. PARSONS, M.D. is one of the leading providers of cornea, cataract, and glaucoma surgery in the state of Utah. Since he began practicing ophthalmology in 1990, Dr. Parsons has performed more than 7,000 surgeries.

Dr. Parsons works relentlessly to stay current on the latest technological advances and is involved in research to improve surgical and medical treatments in his field. "There have been major advancements in eye care since I started practicing medicine," says Dr. Parsons. "We are continually trying to fine tune our surgical options so as to make the experience more positive for our patients."

Dr. Parsons graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine and completed an internship at the University of Utah. He fulfilled his residency at the University of Minnesota and completed a fellowship at the University of Utah, emphasizing cornea and glaucoma surgery.

professional publications including The American Journal of Ophthalmology, The Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, The Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the landmark textbook “Cornea.” He has given guest lectures to the Air Force Clinic Surgeons Society, the Tri-Service Ocular Trauma Course and the American Academy of Ophthalmology Skills Transfer Course. Dr. Parsons donates his time as President of the Utah Ophthalmology Society and is currently chairman of Central Utah Surgery Center. Before coming to Excel, he taught medical students and residents as an assistant clinical professor at the University of California. He also worked as the Deputy Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology at Travis Air Force Base.

On a personal note…
Dr. Parsons is a native of Orem, Utah. He and his wife, Karen, have five children. In his spare time he enjoys hiking, biking and spending time with his family.
