Pediatric Ophthalmology & Adult Strabismus

MICHAEL S. ABRAMS, M.D. is Utah County's only fellowship-trained specialist in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. He has performed more than 1,500 surgical procedures and specializes in eye muscle surgery in both children and adults, tear duct repair in children and pediatric cataracts.

Dr Abrams has a fun personality kids love. His ability to connect with children is what led him to specialize in pediatrics. "Children are fun to work with and easy to care for," says Dr. Abrams. "They're still at that point where going to the doctor can be an adventure."

Dr. Abrams earned degrees from Dartmouth and Brown Medical School before serving in the U.S Army for four years as an emergency room physician. He completed a residency

in General Ophthalmology in Buffalo, New York where he was chief resident. Following his residency, he was chosen for a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus at the Children's Hospital of Michigan.

Dedicated to improving eye care, Dr. Abrams' research has been published in peer review journals, and he regularly lectures to ophthalmologists, optometrists and primary care physicians throughout the state of Utah. He conducts free clinics for the Utah School for the Deaf and the Blind, and is a volunteer faculty member for ORBIS, an eye mission that travels the world teaching and providing ophthalmologic care. He is a member of The American Academy of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, and The Utah Opthalmologic Society.

On a personal note…

Dr. Abrams is from Richmond, Virginia. He and his wife, Bobby, an emergency room physician at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, have a son named Zachary. Dr Abrams' interests include classical guitar, cabinetry, tennis and skiing.
