| Cataract Surgery-Does the Surgeon Matter? Cataracts- if you live long enough you will have one. Cataracts are a clouding of the eye’s lens, like a window that is fogged with steam. The most common symptoms of a cataract are cloudy or blurry vision, problems with light such as glare or halos, poor night vision, faded colors, double or multiple vision and frequent changes in eyeglasses or contact lens prescriptions. Knowing that someday you will likely experience a cataract, it is wise to choose a surgeon you can trust with your precious sight. Cataract surgeons achieve the best outcomes when they are experienced. It is also important that you feel comfortable with the doctor since you will be seeing them for many pre and post op visits. Excel Eye Center offers many experienced cataract surgeons, including James G. Theurer, M.D. Dr. Theurer has extensive training in general ophthalmology and specialty training in the treatment of cataracts. He has performed over 1,000 cataract surgeries, and his work has been published in the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Theurer is constantly searching for ways to improve eye care procedures. The ability to help people is what motivates him to continually increase his knowledge and skill. "There is nothing more satisfying than helping restore someone's vision," says Dr. Theurer. "It feels great to be able to give people something as valuable as eyesight." Dr. Theurer graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine, and completed an internship at the University of Utah. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center and trained at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
